Welcome to the Instruction Division
The Kern High School District's Instruction Division hereby notifies the public that there is a list of instructional materials, compiled from our various school sites, that will be up for sale or disposal. These instructional materials are outdated and/or damaged and are subject to replacement. In accordance with Board Policy 3270, a Public Notice was provided regarding the disposal of these materials. This item will be brought back as an action item at the January Board Meeting.
We will be open to Public Comments on this matter at the Board Meeting on December 16, 2024.

The Kern High School District’s Instruction Division is committed to the “Tradition of Excellence” that is an expectation in our community. The programs facilitated by the Instruction Division embody our whole child commitment by providing a variety of experiences, activities, and supports to ensure “ALL students graduate prepared to succeed in the workplace and on the post-secondary level.” KHSD students will have access to curricular offerings that exceed the graduation requirements set forth by the state of California and provide avenues to the A-G requirements set forth by University of California and the Californian State University systems.

The Instruction Department (Instruction Department Link) is led by Ms. Cheyenne Bell. Her department oversees graduation requirements and transcripts, counseling services, co-curricular programs, course alignment, GATE, AP, Honors, instructional materials, and a variety of other initiatives.
The Department of Instructional Services (Instructional Services Link) is led by Mrs. Leah Hatton. Instructional Services is committed to building learning communities that ensure our teachers have the most effective teaching strategies and curricular understanding to best serve students.
The New Teacher and Migrant Support (New Teacher and Migrant Support Link) Department is led by Dr. Mark Balch. The department is committed to ensuring we retain and advance new teachers to permanent status. Additionally, the department is committed to ensuring migrant students receive support to ensure they graduate, prepared to succeed in the workplace and at the post-secondary level.
The Nursing Services (Nursing Services Link) Department are led by Mrs. Amy Greene. Her department addresses and remedies health related barriers to a student’s education programs. The department oversees the link between health care and education by providing health care, health education, and health related assessments as applicable.
The Department of Research and Planning (Research and Planning Link) is led by Mr. George Bradley. His department oversees districtwide testing programs. Additionally, Research and Planning utilizes data to assist KHSD and school sites in making decisions to address education needs, and enrollment trends.
The School Support Services (School Support Services Link) Department led by Mr. Stan Greene. His department oversees the athletics, activities, and transfers. The annual KHSD PEAAK awards and the Kern High Network (http://www.kernhighnetwork.com) are facilitated by the School Support Services Department.
The Student Behavior and Supports (Student Behavior and Supports Link) Department is led by Mr. Paul Helman. Through the direction and supervision of Mr. Fabian Buckner, the department is committed to ensuring all students have access to the interventions needed to successfully matriculate through high school. Student Behavior and Supports leads student discipline initiatives and hearings, campus safety, student records, and intervention structures and personnel.
The Student, Family, and Community Engagement (Student Family and Community Engagement Link) Department is led by Mr. Gavin Bell. His department is committed to collaborative efforts with education partners to develop best practices and relationships for student success. The Student Family and Community Engagement Department facilitates community discussions then writes the LCAP (LCAP Link).
The efforts of the staff members, teachers, and administrators of the Instruction Division are all to provide the best possible educational experiences for students in the Kern High School District. We are collectively committed to ensuring ALL students have a pathway to success and are prepared for their next step in life.
