    Bakersfield High School is changing the way it teaches physical education after opening its state-of-the-art fitness center. Students are assigned fitness watches and can race one another on stationary cycles using a high-tech web racing system.

  • Best Men Teach- Black Excellence in Scholarship and Teaching event held at CSUB.3:07 B.E.S.T Men Teach

    The Kern High School District and Project BEST partnered with California State University, Bakersfield for the inaugural B.E.S.T Men Teach- Black Excellence in Scholarship and Teaching event on January 16, 2020. Around 300 high school students spent the day at CSUB listening and learning from local educators about their path to the classroom. Organizers said the goal of the event is to inspire young African American males to pursue a career in education. Gayle Batey, a longtime supporter of Education in Kern County, and her husband, originally funded Project BEST in 1992 to increase graduation and college attendance rates of African American male students in the Kern High School District.

  • 2:14 2019 Kern County Career Expo

    The Kern High School District partnered with several local educational organizations and businesses to host the second annual Kern County Career Expo on Thursday, February 28, at the Rabobank Arena & Convention Center. The expo is a career exploration event geared towards middle school students, high school students, and recent graduates. Attendees had the opportunity to speak with close to 200 Kern County employers from a wide variety of industries about the different career pathways available in their companies.
