Around 300 high school students spent the day at CSUB listening and learning from local educators about their path to the classroom. Organizers said the goal of the event is to inspire young African American males to pursue a career in education. Gayle Batey, a longtime supporter of Education in Kern County, and her husband, originally funded Project BEST in 1992 to increase graduation and college attendance rates of African American male students in the Kern High School District.

The expo is a career exploration event geared towards middle school students, high school students, and recent graduates. Attendees had the opportunity to speak with close to 200 Kern County employers from a wide variety of industries about the different career pathways available in their companies.
