The Kern High School District’s vast boundaries expand over 3,200 square miles within Kern County.

As a support service to education, the Kern High School District’s Transportation Department provides transportation for more than 35,000 students to a total of 27 school sites. This service is not only for the regular school day but also includes athletic and extracurricular events. Our buses are operated by highly qualified drivers who are proficiently trained in safety. Overall, our buses travel more than 2.4 million miles annually. The KHSD buses, which are inspected annually by the California Highway Patrol, are maintained by a highly conscientious vehicle maintenance staff.

The K.H.S.D. Transportation Department is also highly regarded as one of the nation’s largest district-owned Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) school bus fleets. Our district’s school bus fleet consists of 177 buses, 55 of which are CNG buses. These buses are also better for the environment, being tagged as “clean air vehicles.”
