In this week's KHSD News, students transform into science teachers to inspire future Falcons, and journalism students take over Bakersfield College to learn from professionals in the business. Plus, highlights of the We the People State Championship, the "Super Bowl" of academic competitions, and many more accomplishments achieved by students and staff.

Journalism students from several schools in the Kern High School District were given the opportunity to learn more about the various careers in journalism during the second annual Journalism Day held at Bakersfield College on February 7.

In this week's KHSD News, the new KHSD Aquatic Complex is complete and ready for students to dive in! Plus, students get a rare glimpse into the criminal justice system, schools celebrate their school counselors, and we will tell you the way you can open your heart to foster youth in our community this Valentine's Day.

During February, open your heart to Kern County’s foster youth. The Kern High School District has teamed up with Kern County Network for Children Dream Center to collect much-needed clothing and supplies for current and former foster youth up to the age of 25.

The Kern High School District and Project BEST partnered with California State University, Bakersfield for the inaugural B.E.S.T Men Teach- Black Excellence in Scholarship and Teaching event on January 16, 2020.

Liberty High School senior, Edgar Quinteros, was chosen to work with KERO 23abc News on a project in honor of News Literacy Week. Quinteros worked with KERO to shoot, edit, and report on a story highlighting a local veteran who, at one time, was homeless.

In this week's KHSD News, Mock Trial Super Saturday—the one team soaring to the state finals. Plus, female professionals in our community empower young women, a "special" check presentation to an Independence senior, and recognizing Shafter High school for leading the way.

Centennial High School took home first place in the 2020 Kern County Mock Trial Super Saturday held Saturday, January 25, in downtown Bakersfield at Kern County Superior Courts. Centennial will move on to represent Kern County at the California Mock Trial in March. Congratulations go out to the following high school teams that placed in the competition:
Second- Garces Memorial
Third- Liberty
Fourth- Highland
Fifth- Golden Valley
