Attendance Data

The Kern High School District's Truancy Reduction Program looks closely at attendance data. All data that is examined by the Educational Options Department is shared annually at the Board of Trustees meeting. The link to this year's presentation is below.
 
Highlights from the presentation included:
  • 33,000 fewer absences from the previous year
  • 26% decrease in chronically absent students
  • 2,358 more students in their seats the day before Thanksgiving break due to the calendar change
  • Efforts to reduce truancy
    • Shifting the focus from punitive to identifying the issues and helping to solve them
    • Early identification and intervention
    • Family support to improve student attendance
    • Locate students not enrolled in school
    • Outreach to chronically absent students to find out why they are missing school and help them attend more regularly by connecting them to the services they need
    • Connecting parents to parenting classes to help them learn specific ways to change negative behavior
    • Making attendance a community priority
