Upcoming Boundary Changes

On April 3, 2017, the Kern High School District Board of Trustees approved the criteria and timeline to relieve overcrowding at Frontier High School. The plans were presented to the Board of Trustees at the June 26, 2017 Board Meeting. Four public forum meetings were conducted in July soliciting public input. On August 7, 2017 the Board of Trustees with a 4-0 vote chose Plan A for implementation for the 2018-19 school year. The boundary adjustment affects the following schools: Centennial, Frontier, Liberty, North, & Shafter.

KHSD Schools Receive State PBIS Honor

The Kern High School District (KHSD) is celebrating the recognition of several schools by the California PBIS Coalition for successful PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) implementation.

In October 2014, the Dolores Huerta Foundation, The National Brotherhood Association, Faith in Action Kern County (formerly known as Faith in the Valley), and several community members/students (“Plaintiffs”) filed a lawsuit against the Kern High School District (“KHSD”) and several other local and state education entities challenging student discipline practices and alleging civil rights violations related to African American and Latino students. In order to put an end to this costly and time consuming litigation KHSD has settled this matter as of July 24, 2017. The information contained here is meant to answer common questions and to provide the position of the KHSD on this matter.
