Nearly two hundred people attended the Kern High School District Special Education Transition Fair. The free event provided people with valuable resources, services, and community connections.
“The Transition Fair hosted by KHSD Special Education Department was a huge success in bringing community wide like-minded professional groups together to assist families and students in the options available to them in our own county. The networking of Special Education families, advocates and county educators focused on providing the wide range of collaboration and resources we have here in Kern County. We are so fortunate to have such a caring, knowledgeable Special Education Community in Bakersfield!” - Sandy Niday, SELPA Director/Special Education Director, KHSD
Twenty-nine tables packed with information were made available to the guests, including Kern Regional Center, BARC, the Epilepsy Society, Goodwill, The Autism Society, and the Department of Rehabilitation. Representatives from Bakersfield College, NAPD, Special Olympics and Creative Connections were on hand to assist those with disabilities, their friends, family members, and teachers.
The event was held Thursday, October 26, 2017, at the Kern Agricultural Pavilion. Organizers plan to make this an annual event. The next KHSD Special Education Transition Fair will be held during the 2018-2019 school year.
