Latina Leaders Youth Leadership Program

The Youth Leadership Program (YLP), sponsored by the Latina Leaders of Kern County, continues to have an impact on the lives of the young ladies participating in the program.

About 150 young women in grades 10-12 meet once a month and study a variety of topics including public speaking, networking, career readiness, college admissions, and the importance of community engagement.

While the students enjoy their time and experiences, the parents of these students are impressed with the program, its organizers, and mentors.

“I have watched my daughter grow into a more responsible young adult with a clearer picture of where she wants to see herself in the future.  As a mother of 3 daughters, I am very pleased that a program like this exists and is geared to help promote our rich roots that will help continue to create diversity in our community.  I hope this program continues to empower young Latinas for many years to come.”

- Lucy Padilla, Parent, Latina Leaders

The final few months of the Latina Leadership Program Workshop scheduled this year will cover “branding” for career success, getting fit, the University/College field trip, and a special end-of-the-year Graduation Dinner for YLP participating students and their parents.
