Founded in 2002, OBOBOK encourages the community to read, engage in the literacy topic, and complete lessons relating to the themes in the book. This year, organizers have invited everyone to read The Big Thirst, The Secret Life and Turbulent Future of Water, by Charles Fishman. The book taps into topics about how we use, share, and value water.
Friday, October 7, 2016, a play written by KHSD Theatre Department students based on The Big Thirst was performed at Beale Memorial Library.
An Art Opening for the KHSD student artist exhibit from a water-themed competition on The Big Thirst was held October 7th at The Younger Galley and provided an opportunity for the public to view these creative pieces. Nearly 200 people attended the reception awards presentation. This exhibit will be on display through October 26th and the public is encouraged to explore The Younger Gallery at 1430 Truxtun Avenue, Suite #105.
KHSD art students also took part in Via Arte at the Marketplace on October 15th and 16th, creating and sharing water themed pieces with family, friends, and art lovers from all over Kern County.
An opportunity to meet the author of The Big Thirst, Charles Fishman, is coming up on October 27th.
There will be a book signing and discussion at Cal State, Bakersfield in the Icardo Center, 9001 Stockdale Highway, at 7:00 p.m.
