District Programs

Special Education Classes on Comprehensive Campuses

Mild/Moderate Classes: classes are designed to adapt the content, methodology, and delivery of instruction to ensure access to the KHSD adopted curriculum for: Math, English and Transition. Services provided to students include specialized academic instruction (SAI), consultation with classroom teachers and IEP related services.

Moderate/Severe Classes: classes are designed to teach and assist students in all aspects of living as independently as possible. Instruction includes functional academics, community access, independent living skills, social skills and vocational skills. Services provided to students include specialized academic instruction (SAI), consultation with classroom teachers and IEP related services.

Low Incidence Programs

Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program (DHH): provides services and supports to students with a significant hearing loss. This program allows students to develop effective language and communication skills and provides them with equal access to the general education environment. Services provided to students include specialized academic instruction (SAI), consultation with classroom teachers and IEP related services.

Visually Impaired Program (VI): provides services and supports to students with significant visual impairments. These services enable students to develop effective compensatory skills and provide them with equal access to the general education environment. Skills taught include visual utilization, vision efficiency, reading, and writing using Braille, the use of assistive technology, specialized transition support, orientation, and mobility training. Services provided to students include specialized academic instruction (SAI), consultation with classroom teachers and IEP related services.

Mobility Program: provides services and supports to students with physical and health-related disabilities. Students in the mobility class exhibit needs in motor development and information processing. Services provided to students include specialized academic instruction (SAI), consultation with classroom teachers and IEP related services.

Specialized Programs

Adult Transition Program: provides services and supports to students with moderate/severe disabilities between the ages of 18-21 years old receiving a Certificate of Completion (COC). The A.B.L.E. Program focuses on functional academics, community based instruction, independent living skills, social skills and vocational skills. Services provided to students include specialized academic instruction (SAI), consultation with classroom teachers and IEP related services.

Career Centers: The Journey Career Center (JCC) and the Schuetz Career Center (SCC) provides students an opportunity to explore the world of work through a variety of work experiences within the community. Services provided to students include specialized academic instruction (SAI), consultation with classroom teachers and IEP related services.

Alternative Placement Programs: provides extra supports, interventions and accommodations for students who have social, emotional, and behavioral needs that interfere with their classroom performance. All programs offer behavior management, social development and mental health support with the ultimate goal to teach students the necessary skills to be successful on a comprehensive campus.
