Congressman Kevin McCarthy recognized local students with the 2017 Congressional Merit Awards during a special ceremony at the Kern High School District. Each student was also asked to choose a teacher who has been especially supportive during their high school career and honored them with the Inspirational High School Educator Award.
Students received medals from Congressman McCarthy during the emotional tribute and were given the opportunity to speak about their family, friends, and future plans.
Educators, administrators, and School District Trustees from across the 23rd Congressional District attended the event and reception.
