Student Artist Shares Talent

Central Valley Continuation High School is pleased to announce Cruz Verdoza Medina has been selected to showcase one of his drawings in the Bakersfield College Student Art Show.  Verdoza is enrolled in Mr. Rubio’s dual enrollment art class with Bakersfield College.

Dual enrollment is where a high school student is taking a high school course that has been aligned to a college course and is receiving high school and college credit simultaneously.  Because of Mr. Rubio’s college degrees and qualifications, he is authorized to teach this course for college credit.  With Mr. Rubio’s guidance and instruction, Cruz was able to succeed in his first college course, earning college credit, and being recognized as a talented artist amongst other college students.  Cruz says drawing relaxes him and he is looking forward to pursuing a career in the art field.

Verdoza’s drawing is one of just 50 selected for this prestigious art exhibit out of 300 applicants.

“This is quite an accomplishment and would not be possible without Mr. Rubio’s expertise and encouragement.” – John Brown, Site Administrator, Central Valley Continuation High School

The Opening Reception at Jones Art Gallery was held February 2, 2017.  The Bakersfield College Student Art Show exhibit will be shown through February 28.  Please check the Jones Art Gallery website for the most up-to-date showing schedule at bakersfieldcollege.edu/art/jones-art-gallery
