Trustee Area 2 Provision Appointment

The application period has closed. The KHSD Board of Trustees will conduct in-person interviews with the following candidates during the February 6, 2023, Board of Trustees meeting:

Alberto Llamas
Manuel Ramirez
Steve Rodrigue
Librado "Lee" Vasquez

Applicant interviews will be held in the Open Session of the regularly scheduled board meeting, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the KHSD Board Room, 5801 Sundale Avenue, Bakersfield 93309. 

On Monday, January 9, 2023, the Kern High School District Board of Trustees voted to fill the vacant Trustee Area 2 position created by the resignation of Jeff Flores to assume a position on the Kern County Board of Supervisors with a provisional appointment. This process allows the existing Board of Trustee members to accept applications for and appoint a new board member to serve in the vacant position until November 2024.

Applicants for Appointment
Applications are requested from community members to fill the Board seat vacated by the resignation of Jeff Flores whose term expired on January 2, 2023.


Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and reside within the Kern High School District Trustee Area 2 and be a registered voter. Interested persons are invited to submit an application addressed to Graci Ashmore, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and the Board of Trustees, Kern High School District, 5801 Sundale Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93309.


The application process includes the application for appointment, a brief resume of the applicant’s background, and a statement explaining why the applicant is interested in becoming a member of the Kern High School District Board of Trustees. The application can be obtained from the Office of the Superintendent located at 5801 Sundale Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93309 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., the District’s website,, or by calling (661) 827-3154. All applications must be on file in the Kern High School District Superintendent’s office no later than January 20, 2023, at 4:30 p.m.


All eligible candidates will be notified the week of January 23 via U.S. mail and the list of eligible candidates will be posted on the Kern High School District website.



The Board Is Interested In Candidates Who:

  1. Are supportive of the mission and goals of the Kern High School District.
  2. Are committed to excellence in providing educational opportunities for students.
  3. Will make decisions based on careful analysis of all data without regard to influence by special interest groups.
  4. Will work in a mutually supportive way with the Board members, the District Superintendent, and staff.
  5. Are willing to commit adequate time to Board meetings, Board development opportunities, and related activities.
  6. Have a commitment to the school community as well as the general community, representing all constituents of the District.
  7. Have demonstrated an interest in support for public education.
  8. Demonstrate a background reflecting personal and professional integrity.
  9. Are committed and endorse the primary responsibility of a member in regard to policymaking.
