Intervention Support

Tier II interventions are provided by the Interventionist following a needs assessment that includes a review of existing data and, when necessary, the collection of new information through the Tier II team. Once specific student needs are identified—such as skill deficits, new skill development, or behavioral functions—the team selects an intervention to match student needs. These interventions provide extra instruction, increased structure, and more frequent feedback.

The Interventionist is responsible for identifying students who need social, behavioral, academic, and/or emotional support; using data to match needs with evidence-based interventions; and providing targeted instruction in cognitive, executive functioning, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills. Interventions may include groups such as Child Anxiety Tales (CAT), Anger Management Essentials, My Journey Grief, Why Try,  Forward Thinking, Check In-Check Out (CICO), Coping with Stress, and various small/skill-building groups.

In addition, the Interventionist monitors progress, evaluates fidelity of implementation, and ensures interventions include explicit teaching, structured prompts, frequent practice and feedback, generalization of skills, communication with families, and strong relationship-building. Tier II supports are reviewed regularly, and students continue to have full access to Tier I supports.
