Will I have to log in every day?

Students are required to log in to each course at least once every day. Students must stay on task, meet deadlines, and seek help from the teacher when needed. Since students have access to their classes all hours of the day, they should check online frequently to view new announcements and discussion postings. It is the same as attending school every day, but it is on your own schedule.

What is the class schedule?

Online courses follow the KHSD’s academic calendar. The quarter and semester end dates are exactly the same as a comprehensive school site.

How is attendance taken online?

Online education is different than attending school every day. You create your own schedule. Since online learning is considered Independent Studies, attendance is based on completed work that you submit each week. For that reason, if you miss three assignments, you will be dropped from Kern Learn.

How do I take state mandated testing online?

All online students report to their home school site for testing to take the required state tests and AP tests.

Am I able to participate in sports?

Yes, students taking a full course load with a 2.0 GPA and successful progress towards graduation are eligible to participate in their home school’s sports activities.

Do all my classes have to be online?

No, we encourage students to take some of their courses at their home school site. Every student enrolled in the program has to have four classes on campus or online; the other two classes are up to you.

What is meant by blended?

Besides taking classes through the traditional method and online, some online students may be required to meet with their teacher in a classroom setting once a week or biweekly to complete a lab or other assignments that cannot be done online.
