| With more than $1.5 million in Foundation funding, Project 2000
provided 1,800 so-called "average" students at four
KHSD campuses more teachers, smaller class sizes, higher academic
standards and more technology throughout their years in high school. The brainchild of Bakersfield businessman Jim Burke and retired Kern High School District Superintendent Don Murfin, Project 2000 yielded dramatic results including:
