Arts Club
CLUB HISTORY:
The Creative Arts Club (originally Cartoonist Club) began during my first
year of teaching at Stockdale High School in 1992. Mike Solko, Lee
Bermejo, Nick Lopez, and James Kopp wanted a club in which comic books and
its art could be discussed and produced. Since that first year, we
have: (as of May, 2008)
* Have raised $28,987.00 in our various fund-raisers since 1992.
* $10,000.00 in scholarship to seniors.
* Produced 21 student made comic books, including a 100+ page final magazine
* Held 25 comic book, sports card, and gaming shows (largest of its kind in
Kern County)
* Participated in 13 on campus food sale days
* Donated to the Stockdale High School Tree of Fame (leaf purchase)
* Donated to the Stockdale High School Drama Department (bought a seat)
* Donated to Bakersfield Toys for Tots
* Purchased a 18"x12" scanner for the club to transfer artwork
into jpg's
* Purchased 2 21" televisions, DVD/VCR, and game consoles for Gamers
* Purchased 4 video game systems and dozens of games to be played and used
for fundraising tournaments
* Purchased 1000 comic art boards for professional style artwork
* Purchased 1000's of comics from local retailers as "give-aways"
at our shows.
* Invited five comic book/movie celebrities to attend our comic shows as
"guests of honor"
* Annual end of the year party and gaming tournament
* 1st place in Stockdale High's first trash can decorating contest (2005)
* Purchased a display glass case to showcase school events on school
building wall.
* Donated $300.00 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation (2008)
