HAPPY BIRTHDAY REBEL FAMILY!!!
This year we will be celebrating our 50th
year providing a quality public education for thousands of young men and
women. Our students have become international businessmen, doctors,
lawyers, university professors, professional athletes, Indy 500 winners,
teachers, politicians, leaders of the community and great parents. South
High students attend some of the finest colleges and universities in the
United States and abroad and excel in their studies. Perhaps no other
school in Bakersfield has helped to shape our community more than South
High School. We have a rich and wonderful tradition of service to our
nation and the world and that tradition continues today. I would also
like to encourage you to attend the 50 th Anniversary
celebration, September 29, 2007; perhaps even showing your Rebel Pride by
purchasing a ticket to the event or by purchasing a granite brick for all
to see in our newly constructed Rebel Square. Information regarding the
details to this event are located here on our website. The Rebel Family
is calling on all Rebels, past, present and future, to come home and
celebrate your greatness.
We are, after all, REBELS FOR LIFE!!!!!!!
Thank you,
Librado “Lee”

Dear Rebel
Family,
“To
Achieve You Must Believe”
For the
past fifty years, South High School has demonstrated excellence in
academics, extracurricular and community services. The school has set the
pace for excellence in numerous areas including WASC Accreditations,
technology, two prestigious partnership academies and in using data to
improve students’ achievement. We have met the curricular challenges that
have been mandated by No Child Left Behind, the California Exit Exam and
the California Standards Tests. South’s students, competing with scholars
from around the world, have excelled in a plethora of careers. Over the
past fifty years, we have maintained an innovative spirit, considered
challenges as a motivator, and dared to be different to meet the ever
changing needs of students, parents, community and the world. It has been
an honor for me to continue the rich traditions of South High School.

Rebels-
I am extremely proud and honored to join
the Rebel family. The administration, teachers, staff and students are
focused on continuing the rich
Tradition of Excellence at South High School both academically
and athletically but we need your help. We invite you to join one of our
booster/parent clubs. Research shows that students whose parents and
families are involved in their school perform better than students whose
parents and families choose not to be involved. We hope and encourage you
to choose to join us in supporting your South High School student. There
are many booster/parent clubs that are active on our campus. Some of them
are: Athletic Booster Club, Rebel Parent Club, Title 1/EL Parent Group,
R.E.B.S. (Band) Boosters, AVID Parent Group, and MSł and CJA Parent
Group. If you would like more information about any of the above South
High School booster/parent organizations or would like information
regarding other ways you can support our South High School students,
please call me at (661) 831-3680.
Whether you are a student, parent,
alumni, friend or family member, I encourage you to get involved with
South High School. By working together, we can continue the rich
Tradition of Excellence at
South High School.
Go Get ‘em Rebels!

Dean of
Instruction/Testing
Peggy Yarber Dear Rebel Nation,
I am so blessed to be part of this great tradition. Being at South High
for the past 10 years has been full of challenges and successes each and
every day. This year of educational learning has already proved to be a
terrific start…we made our API and AYP scores. Testing is one of my
responsibilities and I will do everything in my power to make certain
every child gets tested and has the opportunity to succeed. Also, After
School Tutoring is another area that I oversee and I want each student
who wishes to participate to feel welcomed and helped in all areas of
coursework. I am here to help and I greatly enjoy my position at this
wonderful school of learning!

South
High School prides itself on elevating the character of our students as well
as developing their intellect which is a fundamental component of our
athletic philosophy. The life-lessons and qualities learned on the field of
competition can be directly translated to those taught in our classrooms. It
is my hope that these lessons will continue to influence our students beyond
the playing field and into every aspect of our student-athletes lives, where
they will continue to be an invaluable component of their educational
development at South High School. I firmly believe that this philosophy
will facilitate our goal in assisting our student-athletes to become
champions in the field, in the classroom and in our community.
Go Rebels!
