Guidance Information

The Shafter High Guidance Team is designed to provide services that will allow our school to assess each student's needs and assist each student in arriving at a better understanding of themselves and their capabilities. Our guidance team encompasses all students in an effort to help them discover their strengths, weaknesses, needs, and interests. All Shafter High counselors work directly with students in educational and vocational planning and in the selection of appropriate courses in line with students’ goals.

The Shafter High Guidance Team recognizes that each student is an individual that has unique physical and mental abilities, as well as personal needs and occupational interests. Our guidance team is designed to help students establish meaningful goals, to develop appropriate decision-making skills, to examine carefully relevant information, to assist in identifying potential problems, to seek appropriate resources to develop alternative solutions, and to evaluate the results of the various outcomes and solutions. The role of the guidance department is to inform and assist with decision-making, acknowledging that the ultimate choices must rest with the student and his/her parents.

Shafter High is a small school and we all must wear "many hats." It is a formidable job that just be done by administration and counseling. We have an excellent administrator and counselor team and this team will be a viable group in accomplishing all this is mandated.
