Course Description
This course is designed for student understanding of the concepts and skills needed for Math A. Essentials of Mathematics will focus on measurement, geometry, algebra, statistics, logic, probability, patterns, functions and numbers.  These objectives will be accomplished by incorporating calculators, computers, manipulatives, and ongoing cooperative learning activities.


Algebra AB
Grade Level: 9th to 12th Grade

Course Description
This is a formal development of algebraic skills and concepts including operations of real numbers, polynomials and rational expressions, solving equations and their applications, and graphing.  Proficiency in arithmetic skills is required.  Calculators and computers are used for enrichment.  Previously learned concepts and skills are maintained through spiraling .  Applications with real world problems and estimation are included.


Algebra 1 P

Course Description
Symbolic reasoning and calculations with symbols are central in algebra. Through the study of algebra, a student develops an understanding of the symbolic language of mathematics and the sciences. In addition, algebraic skills and concepts are developed and used in a wide variety of problem-solving situations.


Algebra 1 GP

Course Description
This is a course designed to present a logical development as a first course in Algebra that emphasizes basic concepts and skills while not neglecting fundamental operations.  Increased emphasis is placed on such topics as inequalities, absolute value, graphs on a number line, algebraic terminology, and applications to problem solving.   Course will stress application through extended project work.


Algebra P C/D

Course Description
This high school mathematics course presents the concepts and skills required in a technological society.  It emphasizes applications and provides students with concrete learning experiences.  Students will review math concepts while being challenged with a variety of topics.  The course includes samplings in algebra, geometry, measurement and patterns, probability, spatial visualization and statistics.  The course uses calculators and computers as well as problem-solving and cooperative learning activities.  At the end of this program, students may, if they choose, enroll in Algebra, Integrated Mathematics or Math B. 


Pre-Algebra

Course Description
The geometry skills and concepts developed in this course include definitions, postulates and theorems of plane and solid figures. Emphasis will be placed on learning how to solve problems pertaining to geometry figures. Aside from learning these skills and concepts, students will develop their ability to construct formal, logical arguments and proofs in geometric settings and problems.


Pre-Algebra

Course Description
This course is intended for incoming freshmen students who need to develop their basic arithmetic skills.  Emphasis will be placed on operations and problem solving with fractions, decimals and percents.  The course will introduce students to some of the concepts found on the California High School Exit Exam in the areas of number sense; algebra and functions; measurement and geometry; probability, data analysis, and statistics; and mathematical reasoning.


Geometry 10 G P

Course Description
This is a comprehensive course in the study of Euclidean Geometry of planes and solids.  The course covers theorems and proofs, and their applications in relation to points, lines, planes, triangles, parallelograms, circles, spheres, prisms, pyramids, cones, cylinders and the general polyhedron.  Attention is given to helping students see how experimentation, induction and deduction must supplement each other in scientific reasoning.  Students will engage in enrichment activities.


Applied Algebra 11-12

Course Description
This Applied Algebra 11-12 course will provide juniors and seniors who have not passed the CAHSEE math portion of the text, preparation and review for the test.  It will provide a third math course for the Kern High School District math graduation requirements and it will cover all the Algebra standards as designated by the “Poochigian Bill.”

Course Description
This discipline complements and expands the mathematical content and concepts of algebra I and geometry. Students who master algebra II will gain experience with algebraic solutions of problems in various content areas, including the solution of systems of quadratic equations, logarithmic and exponential functions, the binomial theorem, and the complex number system.

Course Description
This course covers functions, graphs and applications, including linear, quadratic, and polynomial functions, inequalities, exponents and logarithms, and analytic geometry; trigonometry, including polar coordinates and complex numbers; discrete mathematics and data analysis, including vectors and determinants, sequences and series, matrices, combinatorics, probability, and statistics.  The use of scientific calculators is required.


Algebra / Adv HP

Course Description
This course provides a study of the structure of the systems of real and complex numbers.  Beginning with the axioms for real numbers, the systems are developed in a logical sequence.  The course advances through the ideas of natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, real numbers and functions and an introduction to complex numbers.  An emphasis is placed on solving problems using algebraic expressions.


Statistics AP
Grade Level: 11th to 12th Grade

Course Description
The purpose of the AP course in Statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collection analyzing, and drawing conclusions form data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes: exploring data, planning a study, anticipating patterns using probability and simulation, and statistical inference.


Calculus 12 AP

Course Description
This course provides a year’s study of elementary differential and integral calculus.  Students will be prepared to take the Advanced Placement Calculus exam.


Calculus 12 AP/AB

Prerequisites: Math Analysis with a "B" or better.

Course Description
This course is designed for students who have completed four years of college preparatory math, including algebra, axiomatic geometry, trigonometry, and analytical geometry.  Special functions are studied in some detail with the aid of calculus, and the general techniques of calculus are developed and applied to a wide range of functions.  The course is designed so that students will be prepared to take the AP exam in May.  Teacher recommendation is necessary for acceptance into this course.
