The ELD 4 General
course is designed for the ELL 4 student who is not in a college preparatory

requirement for the Kern High School District. This class is not intended to be
combined with any English Language Arts class or ELD 4P class. This language
and reading skill-oriented course includes special emphasis in the reading,
writing, and study skills necessary for students to meet the criteria for exit
from the ELL program and to pass the High School Exit Exam. Instruction will
include oral and written language conventions, vocabulary development, writing
development, reading development, thinking skills, literature, listening and
speaking skills, study skills, and proficiency in technology.

Library Science

Course Description
Library Science is a class intended
to provide experience which will enhance the student's ability to use the
library for both personal and school-oriented interests, to develop skills in
specified clerical activities in the library, and to expose the student to
experience in working with the public, as represented by the student body and
staff. It is one-semester elective course open to students in grades
11-12. Students receive five credits and may repeat the class, assuming
more responsibility and more difficult assignments. Prerequisites are a
passing grade in English, a record of good citizenship, and permission of the
Library Media Teacher. Students are assigned a variety of tasks based on
individual ability, experience, knowledge, and interests. Assignments are
rotated during the year, but are also determined by seasonal activities and
needs of the library. The course meets an elective requirement and does
not meet the Basic English graduation requirement.
English - CAHSEE

The English CAHSEE course is designed
for the students who needs additional work in the reading and writing skills
found in the ninth and tenth grade English content standards. Specifically,
this course will benefit those students who have not passed the English-Language

comprehension, literary analysis, writing strategies and applications, and
written conventions. The course may be offered as a summer class or during the
regular year.
