Program Description

Auto Technology is a NATEF certified advanced program for students seeking specialized training designed to meet standards set by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). This automotive training program is designed to support certification standards supervised by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Prescriptive instruction covers brakes, suspension and steering, engine performance and electricity/electronics. Course content includes instruction in safety, industry standards, related automobile operational theory, diagnosis and trouble shooting, and repair procedures. Students will be exposed to the automotive business and industry and provided with entry-level job skills. This Auto Technology education program includes instruction during the fall semester, spring semester, and summer session to meet 671 hours of specialized training required for program certification.

The auto technology course also includes instruction in mathematics. The curriculum includes classroom instruction in the solution of practical mathematics problems related to automobile service and operation. Mathematics instruction includes whole numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, problem solving, fractions, decimals, percentages, metrics, perimeters, areas, volumes, weights, lengths and temperatures.

This course carries five units of math credit towards high school graduation for each semester completed. This course has been articulated with Auto I at Bakersfield Community College.

Enrollment Info

All incoming high school juniors, seniors, and persons 16 years of age and older are eligible to enroll in ROC programs. Most programs are accessible for individuals with disabilities. Enrollment priority is given to high school juniors and seniors.

High School Student Enrollment - Students must be 16 years of age and must enroll through their high school counselor. All courses earn high school graduation credit.

Adult Enrollment - Adults interested in classes should call the Regional Occupational Center for an appointment to speak with a counselor. Classes not filled to capacity by juniors and seniors are open to adults. Counselors will refer to waiting lists and will contact interested adults when openings occur. Adults are accepted into classes on a first-come basis. Adults need to be present and on time to their first class as the classes fill rapidly.
