Ridgeview offers the students several opportunities to give back to the community. Some of the events are held on campus for those who have less time to spare because of homework. Some of the events are held at a certain time of year, but RHS encourages the students to do what they can. Some information will be provided on this page to describe some of these events.
Canned Food Drive:
The canned food drive is usually held around the holidays (Nov.-Dec.). The
students bring their canned or boxed food to their second period classroom.
Ridgeview's ASB officers collect all the donations, then it is given to Gleaners
Kern County Food Bank.
Blood Drive:
This blood drive is held on the Ridgeview's campus. This gives students,
17+, a chance to donate their bloods. Food and drinks are provided during
the event. The job is done by professionals. All the blood donated
is given to the Houchin Blood Bank.
Clothing Drive:
Ridgeview's clothing drive is offered every year for 2-3 weeks. The
clothes can be new or used, but can be donated as long as they are usable.
All the clothes donated to their second period class are given to the
Bakersfield Rescue Mission. The drive is organized by RHS's MESA Club.
Book/Magazine Drive:
The students are given the opportunity to give reading material that are still
in readable condition. At the end of the drive the ASB officers round up
all the materials and give them to the Mayor's Youth Council.
Supply Drive:
This drive is four separate drives that are at different times. Each drive
is different; there is a blanket drive, coat drive, sock drive, and a towel
drive. All the items donated are given to the local homeless shelters.
These drives are organized by the Friday Night Lights Club.
