Attendance

Being at school is very important.  The amount of credit and the quality of a student's grade depends on his or her attendance.

Because attendance is important, phone calls and parent contact are made to the homes of any students found to be absent.  It should be noted that any student continually absent from school can be asked to bring a note from the doctor explaining their illness.  Further continued unexplained absences often result in a student being referred as a truant to the court and/or probation officer. Student and parent will have to appear in court and in some cases pay a fine.

Tardy policy: With the late start we have at Nueva, there is no reason for any student ever to be tardy. If a student is tardy she/he must have valid reason and documentation. No exceptions! On the 3rd unexcused tardy a parent contact will be made. On the 5th unexcused tardy the student will be suspended pending parent conference. On the 6th unexcused tardy the student may be expelled and sent to community school for the remainder of the semester. Please, be on time!

Detention:    Students arriving to school after 8:40 a.m. must report to the office and will have to serve detention after school on the same day.

Clearing absences:    Parents may clear absences by calling the school. A message may be left on the school's answering machine after school hours.  Clearing and absence does not necessarily mean that the absence has been excused. The absence can be excused only if the student was ill.

Closed Campus:    Students shall not leave the campus at any time when classes are in session, during break or lunch time without first obtaining permission from the parent or director.
