HIV/AIDS Education Teachers

Tony Amarante has taught subjects raging from physical science, earth and space science, to biology for 23 years in the Kern High School District.  In addition to a Bachelor's degree in Earth Science and Master's degree in Education, both earned from California State University, Bakersfield, Tony holds the Bilingual Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development Specialist Certificate from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.   Mr. Amarante has four children. tony_amarante@khsd.k12.ca.us

Tiffany Giese has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education, graduating Cum Laude from Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. Mrs. Giese has a Masters degree in Education, from Point Loma, and a supplementary teaching credential in Health Science. She is entering her sixth year with the Kern High School District, and her first in the HIV/AIDS Education Program. Mrs. Giese is married with no children.  tiffany_giese@khsd.k12.ca.us

Mark Thoennes has a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science from St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, a Master's in Administration, and an Administrative Credential from the University of LaVerne . Mark is entering his nineteenth year of teaching and fourteenth in the HIV/AIDS program. Mr. Thoennes and his wife have three children. mark_thoennes@khsd.k12.ca.us

Eddie Votaw has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and graduated Cum Laude from California State University at Bakersfield.  Mr. Votaw is entering his eighth year of teaching in the Kern High School District, and after a two year teaching assignment at Highland High School, is returning for his fifth year with the HIV/AIDS Education Program.  Eddie and his wife have two children. eddie_votaw@khsd.k12.ca.us


HIV Abstinence Program Coordinator

Ron Valenti has been employed by the Kern High School District since 1972, the first 20 years as a teacher at Highland High School. He is in his 17th year as HIV Education Program Coordinator. Ron has a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Northridge, Masters from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama, and Administrative Credential from the University of La Verne. Mr. Valenti is married with three children.
