Program Goals
The Kern High School District recognizes that the student's home and religious beliefs, if any, should be the primary source of instruction regarding sexual activity, including the value of pre-marital abstinence. The school's instructional role in this area is secondary and is defined by legal guidelines. 
  1. It is the goal of the HIV/AIDS Education Program to reinforce abstinence as the exemplary teenage sexual practice of those students who are currently practicing abstinence. 
  2. It is the goal of the HIV/AIDS Education Program to convince as many sexually active students as possible to return to "abstinence" based on the potentially negative outcomes for sexually active teenagers. 
  3. It is the goal of the HIV/AIDS Education Program to inform sexually-active students to high-risk sexual practices with a special awareness regarding reducing the potential of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS. 

The above goals were adopted in June 1992 by a 24-member task force (Listed Below). The group, comprised of administrators, health educators, parents, clergy and students, worked towards compliance with State laws and educational codes while considering appropriateness and other specifications.
