*       General Announcements: 

Prom Pictures can be picked up in the Activities Office.

Students – the cafeteria will be open during the finals break for a grab and go nutrition meal.

Juniors – we need your baby pictures for next year’s yearbook.  Please bring your baby picture to room 1201 before the end of the school year.  Remember these photos cannot be returned.

*       United States Service Academy currently accepting applications for the 2010 entering class.  Students planning to apply for one of the service academies (the United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point), must send completed application materials Postmarked no later than November 1, 2009.  Application instructions and materials are at http://boxer.senate.gov/services/academy_recs Students who apply for an appointment to a Service Academy must receive a Congressional nomination.  Students residing in California may apply for a nomination from either of their senators, or their member of the House of Representatives.

*       San Joaquin Community Hospital Junior Volunteer Summer Program – The summer program will begin on June 22 and conclude on August 6, 2009.  All applications are due Friday, May 29, 2009 by 4:00pm.  This is a volunteer program only; no paid jobs are available through the volunteer program.  Community Service credit will be given upon request.  Mandatory orientation session on June 9, 2009 from 1:30 to 3:30pm.  Only the students that are selected and receive written notification should attend the orientation!  Applications can be picked up in the career center.

 

*       Seniors:

*       Don’t forget to purchase your tickets for the Last Blast.  Tickets will be sold at the Mother-Daughter Tea, Boys BBQ, Senior Breakfast, and Baccalaureate.  Last Blast will be held at Hodel’s from 9:30pm-1:00am.  New and exciting Arcade Games, Hypnotist Show, Rock Band Competition, Casino Style Games, Prizes, DJ, Dancing, and tons of food.  Don’t miss out!  Tickets $30 presale or $35 at the door.

*       Are you a senior who will not graduate in May or July 2009?  If yes, then think about enrolling as a 5th Year Senior at the Discovery Independent Study Center and continue working toward a high school diploma.  The Discovery Center has a limited number of openings for the fall semester, and its first come, first served for pre-registration.  You will need to pre-register on Monday, August 17th @ 8:00a.m. at the Discovery Ind. Study Ctr., 501 So. Mt. Vernon Avenue.  If you have any questions, see your high school counselor.

*       Cap and Gown – if you have not ordered your cap and gown, you must hurry.  Balfour will be open May 19th – May 21st 3-6pm and May 26th – May 28th 1-6pm.  No checks accepted.  Cash and credit card only.  Cost is $27.31. 

*       Paying for College ~ Student Resource Guide – This guide includes scholarships, internships, fellowships, books and websites that are available to all graduating seniors!  U.S. Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard of California’s District 34 has released this guide for seniors to help reach their goals!  A copy of this guide is in the career center for your use, please come by and check it out… J

*       2009 Educators Workshop (Marine Corps) – July 27 – July 31.  a five day, four night exploration into a world rarely seen by the public.  The trip includes tours of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.  Transportation, lodging and meals are free.  Workshop participants stay at the luxurious Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn overlooking the San Diego harbor.  Any initial room and board expenses will be reimbursed before the conclusion of the workshop.  If you are interested in attending the workshop e-mail Stacy Minnie and I will drop an application in your mail box.
