Prior to assuming the Guidance Technician role in the Career Center,
Melba worked at CHS for several years as a Bilingual Instructional Aide.
In her current role, she assists students with scholarships, work
permits, school IDs, ROC information, and many other items related to
college applications and career choices.
|
Robin joined CHS in 2007 after working in the district offices in the
pupil personnel department. Her hours in the health office are 10
am - 2 pm. She assists students with all health and medication
concerns. Two of her children graduated from CHS (with one more
arriving soon) and she bleeds red and gold! |

Mr. Carbajal has worked in the KHSD for 8 years here at CHS as the
Community Specialist. In this capacity he serves as a liaison between
the community and the school, helping students in a variety of
capacities to eliminate any obstacle preventing them from achieving
success in school. Mr. Carbajal also conducts agricultural research and
teaches martial arts at his dojo in Bakersfield.

Along with being the Athletic Director, Mr. Fowler is in
charge of the Work Experience Program. The Work Experience Program
purpose is to develop a line between school and the world of work. The
program is structured to instill work ethics and a positive attitude for
future successes in the world of work. |

For the past 28 years Mr. Fries has been working for the Kern High School
District in a variety of assignments. He spent a total of twenty years
teaching, coaching, and working in administration at Highland and South
High Schools. In his current assignment at Centennial, he has been the
AP of Admin. for the last eight years. He looks forward to carrying on
the legacy of excellence this school has established. |
Mrs. Friese has been the School Office Supervisor at Centennial since
1992. She has been a KHSD
employee for 38 years and previously worked at East
High School and the District Personnel
Office. In her spare time
she is an avid reader, loves to shop, and likes to travel. |

Leticia joined the Centennial staff after 8 years in the private sector
in communications. She has worked in several positions at CHS and
started her current assignment in 2002. Leticia helps students,
parents, and staff with questions and needs regarding activities,
athletics, and transportation. She has no free time because after
work she is always at a sporting event with her children. |
Dave Olds has recently been named the KHSD's
School/Community Liaison Officer. In this capacity, his
responsibilities will include school and community liaison,
implementation of Quality Educational Investment Act (QEIA) programs at
six KHSD campuses, development of more Career and Technical Education
programs, and other district responsibilities. We wish him best of luck
and will miss him. |

Carlos Sardó has been at Centennial since it first opened its doors in
1993. He came to Centennial from East Bakersfield High School were he
was a Counselor. He was the school’s first Head Counselor and Varsity
Girl’s Soccer coach. After 11 years in guidance Mr. Sardó became the
Dean of Student Services and now serves as the Assistant Principal of
Instruction. Mr. Sardó began his career with the KHSD back in 1977 as a
Biology teacher at West High School. There he spent 13 years as a
teacher and coach. |
Joyce came to CHS in 2005 after a distinguished career in banking.
She receives payments from students for such things as yearbooks, fines,
lost books, tests, dances, etc. She also manages all school
financial accounts. In her free time Joyce enjoys spending time at
her cabin in Shaver Lake and spoiling her grandchildren.

Cheryl comes from a
strong business background in HR and Real Estate. She has worked
with the KHSD for 4 years. She began her career at Shafter High
working in the Administrative office and has experienced many facets of
the classified workplace.

Steve Wedel: Principal

Steve is returning to Centennial where he was Dean of
Students during the 1996-97 school year. He brings to his new assignment
a lengthy list of degrees and credentials and a broad array of
experience in and out of education. He has earned three Masters’
Degrees: Physical Education, Business and Educational Administration. In
addition to more than 25 years experience in education as a teacher,
coach and administrator, he has seven years experience in the business
world that included top level responsibilities.
Mr.
Wedel began his educational career in 1974 with a junior high school in
Visalia where taught Physical Education. Steve first joined the KHSD in
1977 as a teacher at Shafter High. With a Bachelor’s Degree in
Oceanography from CSU Humboldt and a Master’s Degree in Physical
Education from CSU Fresno, Steve taught both science and P.E. for 10
years. He also coached the school’s swimming and cross country teams.
In 1986 Mr. Wedel left education to pursue a career in business using a
Masters’ Degree in Business earned through CSU Bakersfield. Steve served
as the Chief Operating Officer for A.C.X. Trading Inc. a global dairy
feed exporting firm. His business career also included serving as
Business Opportunity Program Coordinator for the Southern Ute Indian
Tribe. In 1993, Steve rejoined the KHSD as a teacher at West High where
he taught business, math and science for three years.
Having also earned a Masters’ Degree in Educational Administration from
CSUB, Steve began his administrative career with the KHSD in 1996 as
Dean of Students of Centennial High. The following year he was named
Assistant Principal for Administration at Bakersfield High. In 1999, Mr. Wedel was named Bakersfield High’s Assistant Principal for Instruction,
a position he held until July 2007 when he was named Director of Staff
Development and Guidance. |
