►Where will my high school student attend high school if I buy this house?

Kern High School District is experiencing rapid growth.  In response, the District has built six new high schools since 1991.  The latest, Frontier High, opens in August, 2006.  Two more new high schools are planned for 2008 openings with an additional two schools to follow as needed.

Opening new schools and coping with overcrowding necessitates changing school boundaries.

►I want my seven-year-old to attend South High School. Will this house be in the South High attendance area seven years from now?

In a rapidly growing district, no one can answer this question. We know that we will have to adjust high school boundaries as we build new high schools and as existing schools become overcrowded.  A community based committee recommends changes in school boundaries.  Please see Kern High School District's Boundary Change Process for more details.

Yes, all high schools offer a core academic program leading to admission into the California State University system & the University of California as well as other rigorous institutions. All high schools offer gifted and honors programs for students. All schools offer a math sequence leading up to and including Advanced Placement Calculus. All schools offer at least 16 semesters of Honors and Advanced Placement classes that meet University of California standards for such classes.

Each of our high schools has been recognized for individual accomplishments. Although each school is unique, all high schools in the Kern High School District have strong educational programs designed to meet the needs of all students.  All schools post the California School Accountability Report card for their school on the web.  When looking at overall test scores, please consider that these are composite scores including the scores of students in the gifted program, students in college prep classes, students in general ed classes, students in remedial classes, students learning English, and special education students.  These scores may not provide much guidance in choosing the best school for your student.  Contacting and/or visiting the school will provide you with better information on whether a particular school has the best program for your son or daughter.  The Kern High School District’s commitment to maintaining the availability of a full program at each school  is intended to enable families to choose their home without being concerned that their choice will keep their child from having the education they need to succeed.

Yes, students may continue to attend a high school if they have attended that school for one full year. If students attend a different high school than the one serving their neighborhood, the family must provide transportation to the school.

Yes, if a family has an older brother or sister attending one high school, and the family moves into a different school attendance area, younger children may join that student at the original school.

►I’ve heard they will be building several new high schools in the next few years. Will one of them be located near this house?

Golden Valley High School opened in Fall, 2003 and is located at 801 Hosking Road.

The next high school, Frontier High School, will be at the intersection of Allen Road and Kratzmeyer Road and is scheduled to open in Fall, 2006.

Kern High School District needs to construct at least four additional schools over the next ten years to maintain the standard of education that has been maintained during the decade of rapid growth of rapid growth that saw the building and opening of Stockdale High, Centennial High, Ridgeview High, & Liberty High.

Kern High School District will open the first two high schools authorized by Measure 'N' (passed November, 2004) in 2008. Additional information is available here.
