The following information is for students who will or have already completed all of the Kern High School District/Adult School requirements (200 credits including ten credits of Algebra) by May 29, 2009.
On behalf of Bakersfield Adult School, we would like to congratulate you for your hard work and
encourage you to participate in the commencement. The information is outlined below.
COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES
Commencement exercises will be held Friday, May 29, 2009, in Harvey Auditorium, on the Bakersfield High School campus, 1241 “G” Street at 7:00 p.m. Students must report to the Bakersfield High School
cafeteria no later than 6:15 p.m. If you are interested in being a commencement speaker, please contact Gena Lieske at 835-1855, no later than May 8th.
PRACTICE FOR THE COMMENCEMENT
All students participating in the exercises on May 29th will be expected to attend commencement
practice. Students must report to the Bakersfield High School cafeteria on Wednesday, May 27th at
6:30 p.m.
CAP AND GOWN
Any student who participates in the commencement exercises must wear a cap and gown. The cap and gown can be purchased at the Adult School Finance Office during our business hours.
The fee for cap, gown & tassel is $20.00 (cash only). If you already have an Adult School cap and gown and do not need to purchase one, please let our Registrar know so she can include your name on the
commencement list.
TICKETS FOR THE COMMENCEMENT
Due to the large number of participants, the Adult School must issue tickets for this year’s
commencement. Each student will receive six (6) free tickets during the practice on Wednesday,
May 27th. No additional tickets will be available. During the practice, we will give students the
opportunity to get tickets from those students who will not need all of their tickets.
COMMENCEMENT DVD
As in years past, the commencement will be professionally videotaped. Your friends and family will be able to enjoy the ceremony without having to video. If interested, you may pre-pay your DVD ($20.00 cash only) at the Finance Office before May 29, 2009.
DIPLOMAS/CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION
IIf you passed both sections of the California High School Exit Exam, you will receive your diploma the night of the ceremony. If you did not pass both sections, you will receive a certificate of completion the night of the ceremony. If you do not attend the ceremony, you may pick up your diploma or certificate of completion at the Bakersfield Adult School office the following week between 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Any
student needing verification of graduation/completion beforehand may request an official transcript or letter of completion from our Registrar, Sheri Johnson.
