US History CP

Prerequisites: None
This is a one year course designed for the college bound student and it satisfies the graduation requirement for American History. This course deals with the scope of America's past with emphasis being placed on those events from the late 19th century to the present. It will not exclusively deal with any one time period or event but is designed to provide the student with an overview of the more recent and major events. The text used is at a true college-prep reading level. Field trips may be arranged to at least on of the following: LA Museum of Tolerance, J. Paul Getty Museum, Huntington Library and Museum, or the LA Cultural Center Complex.

US History Honors

Semester 1 and 2
Grade 11
Credit: 5 per semester
Prerequisites: Application, parent permission, submission of writing samples or other school work for evaluation, teacher recommendations. Overall G.P.A. of 3.00 or higher.
This is a one year course that satisfies the graduation requirement for American History. The description for this course is the same as the description for the US History 11P class written above with the addition of reading and writing at a more sophisticated level. Some topics may be given a more in depth examination and projects may be worked on in conjunction with English 11P Honors.

US History 11

Semester 1 and 2
Grade 11
Credit: 5 per semester
Prerequisites: None
This course satisfies the graduation requirement for American History and is geared toward those students who have experienced reading difficulty and have not yet developed the study skills required of a college-prep class. This course will cover the scope of more recent American History from the late 19th century to contemporary times. It will examine the political, judicial, military, social, cultural, economic and intellectual movements and developments making up the country's history since the Civil War Period. The emphasis will be on certain people, events, and issues that have been important to America's growth and development.

US History ESL

Semester 1 and 2
Grade 11
Credit: 5 per semester
Prerequisites: Qualify for the ESL program.
This course is designed to meet the necds of students who speak a language other than English and who may not yet have developed the study skills required in a college-prep course. This course will cover the same material that the US History 11 covers, but with a focus on developing students reading writing and speaking skills in the English Language. Oral and written participation in the students primary language is allowed so as to give higher level content to material.
