Philosophy

The governing body of the Kern High School District has established Independent Study as an alternative educational delivery system. This action was taken in harmony with the intent of the California Legislature [reflected in Educational Code SS 51225 and 51225.3 (b)] to make our schools more responsive to each student's needs. The expectation is that Independent Study, while providing an alternative to traditional classroom instruction, will deliver a curriculum that is consistent with the district's courses of study: an alternative delivery system, not an alternative curriculum.
