AHS’s Business Department is offering a new class in PERSONAL FINANCE that started in the 2006-07 school year. This class teaches students how to manage their finances for a lifetime, a skill that is rarely taught in school yet all of us need to use in “real world.” Learning these skills can have a tremendous effect on your quality of life. Wouldn't it be nice not to worry about money and to able to do the things you want to do? Topics in the class will include the following:
How to accumulate $1,000,000 or more over your lifetime. It is easier than you think! Consider this: If you work your whole life and do not save anything, how much will you have for retirement?
Think you can depend on Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid? Think again! All of these government programs are severely underfunded and without a doubt benefits from these programs will be reduced or eliminated in the future.
Each
student will complete a financial journal that can be used
as a lifetime resource. Other topics included in the class are:
Choosing a Career, Job Skills, Paying for College
The Principles of Personal Finance
Managing Your Financial Health and Making a Plan
