Migrant Center Quick Reference Sheet for Services
Health Related Services:
The following steps are taken when a student is referred to the migrant dept. for any health related reasons:
Immediately check family insurance and then make an appointment to see an outside health agency. If no insurance, we advise of other insurances available and then refer the student to the Kern County Health Dept. (KCHD, 661-868-0554) and make an appointment for a health examination. The student automatically qualifies for a two month medical insurance plan (Gateway) once referred to KCHD and during this two month period, the student receives the necessary medical services.
Requests for Food Baskets:
Migrant Staff will make a referral to The Gleaners in Bakersfield and ask for a referral for a certain number of food baskets depending on need and requests. The Gleaners is located at 1326 30th Street (661-324-2767)
Requests for Clothing:
Many times Migrant Staff will transport families to Vincent De Paul Center in Bakersfield for clothing referrals. The center is located on 310 Baker Street and their phone number is 661-323-2941.
