JROTC supports an annual Summer Camp for cadets that are interested in going and have shown the propensity for the program. The camp is conducted by qualified JROTC teaching staffs from the various JROTC schools. It is funded by the US Army Cadet Command which includes: lodging, meals, training, transportation, uniforms, and equipment. For the past three years Arvin high school has joined with 13 other JROTC schools in conducting our summer camp at Lost Valley Scout Camp located in San Diego County.
While at camp the cadets learn and participate in swimming (2 Olympic pools), horseback riding, canoeing, rifle safety, engineering, ropes and knots, archery, land navigation, camp fire meal prep and cooking, mountain biking, repelling, and team problem solving to name a few. The camp is 5-6 days long, starting on a Monday and ending either on Friday or Saturday.
The only question at the end of the camp from the cadets is usually: Why can't it go longer?
